New Project Arrives At Base

An interesting project has arrived this weekend at Vintage Automobilia. A c.1920s Gilbert & Barker T8 with some modifications to suit its original position under a canopy, the neck has been heavily reduced and a sightglass added to the door for the gauge.

We were privileged to purchase this directly from the small garage where it worked and be able to see where it was sited and keep that history with this interesting piece.

Now assesed and being prepared for restoration to start.

Goodwood Revival 2019

The team at V.A. are back at base following a fantastic few days at the always incredible Goodwood Revival. We wanted to share some pictures with you all for those who missed our stand over the road. We had some new as yet unseen purchases with us following Beaulieu autojumble the weekend before and some newly restored pumps completed in time for the event, available pieces will be added to the shop pages this week.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello or purchase items to add to their collections. Looking forward to next year already!

Rare Dunlop Showcard

A rare and early Dunlop tyre showcard that recently surfaced via an antiques specialist in Ireland. A UK piece, of painted hard board construction, circa 1893-1896, prior to the company name change to include Dunlop. How has this delicate piece survived for at least 123 years! Now on it’s way to a top UK collection, we have been privileged to handle this little advertising sign and know its found the right home.

Gulf Pump to Yorkshire

We love receiving photographs from our valued clients and one very happy customer has kindly sent us pictures of his latest purchase. The second of our Gilbarco Salesmaker pumps in Gulf livery now fully set up in it’s new Yorkshire home, with matching wall sign and 8 other restored pumps for company! We loved working on this pump and are glad to see it will be enjoyed for many years to come. Delivered by us in person, a long but satisfying trip from our Devonshire base. As always with our pumps this is a genuine original 1960s piece, finished to a high standard and restored retaining it’s original internal components.

Crypton Tuner

The latest arrival at Vintage Automobilia HQ this week & a little different to our usual finds. An early and rare Crypton engine tuning machine. An incredible looking piece with knobs and gauges aplenty.

We first saw this in a south Devon garage last year whilst on a picking trip. We loved it then and are very glad to have been able to purchase this piece. Now undergoing sympathetic cosmetic restoration to bring it back to its former glory.

New Sign Arrivals

A selection of new signs that have arrived at base this week. As always, condition is key! Great examples of tin and enamel from different era’s. Available for sale in the ‘signs’ section.

Beckmeter M50 Restoration

Latest restoration nears completion. Late 1950s Beckmeter model M50 finished in its original Shell livery.

Pictured here with panels loosely fitted for the first time after paint. It is now undergoing final fit & finish in our workshop including new decals and will be ready to find it’s new home in the coming few days. An original Shell-Mex BP supplied pump.

Buried Treasure!

Here at V.A. we love the hunt for those elusive items.

We were recently approached regards the purchase of this rare early oil cabinet top enamel sign, which was found a few weeks ago by a homeowner just 10 minutes away from our Devonshire base, buried in their back garden! With the house itself being over 60 years old, who knows how long this beauty had been hidden underground! The enamel finish has survived remarkably well with good colour and relatively minor damage overall.

Now cleaned up and available for sale, see ‘Signs’ page for further details.
